Spectropolarimetric Inversions

Research project, Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, 2024

Summer research internship developing the project “Deep probing of umbral magneto-convection”.

Main responsibilities:

  • Observational data from the GREGOR Solar Telescope.
  • Recovery of solar atmospheric profiles via inversions of Stokes profiles with the SIR code.
  • Usage of HTCondor for parallelization.

After the first year of my Master’s Degree I had the opportunity to complete this three-month Summer Research Internship, working on the project “Deep probing of Umbral Magnetoconvection” supervised by Tobías Felipe and Juan Carlos Trelles. I gained valuable experience in observational techniques and data analysis, improving my Python skills and using scientific software for inverting spectropolarimetric profiles and retrieving physical parameters of the solar atmosphere. I also learned about high-performance computing by using the HTCondor software to parallelize large calculations.

The slides of the presentation I made about this project are available here and below.
